Patterns associated with where and when car crashes happen

While there's no one magic formula you can implement in order to avoid a car accident, there are certain patterns as to where and when accidents occur. Knowing these can be helpful to keep in mind to reduce your risk of being involved in a crash.

Contrary to what most people might would believe, the majority of car crashes that can be attributed to drowsiness don't happen during long trips. Instead, they occur within just 25 miles of an individual's own home.

As for why these types of accidents happen so close to home, traffic safety officials argue it has to do with drivers feeling more relaxed as they get near their homes. Additionally, drivers quickly become familiar with their surroundings, which in turn causes them to zone out.

Researchers have also found that drivers are most vulnerable to be involved in accidents at certain times of the day. As you might expect, the times of the day in which the majority of drivers are on the road are the time frames when accidents are most apt to occur. During late morning hours and evenings, you're more apt to be involved in a car crash than you are in the morning.

Statistics show some 16 percent of all fatal accidents occur in the 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. window. For those who work less-traditional hours, you're at even higher risk of being involved in a fatal accident. Commuters riding along the roadways between 6:00 p.m. and midnight are involved in 31 percent of all fatal crashes.

Finally, as for what roadways are the most dangerous, it would be rural ones. In 2013 alone, there were 3,000 fatalities that occurred on rural roadways throughout the United States.

If you've been seriously injured or know someone that has been killed in a car crash, then a Vista, California, motor vehicle accident attorney can work to help you recover either medical or funeral expenses and potentially other costs.
